PVDF pumps

PVDF is the acronym for polyvinylidene fluoride, a semi-crystalline thermoplastic polymer. Polyethylene is manufactured by polymerizing vinylidene fluoride in the presence of a catalyst.

PVDF is defined by a density of 1.76 g/cm³ to 1.78 g/cm³ and is thus a high-density thermoplastic.

Polyvinylidene fluoride offers excellent chemical resistance without the drawbacks of poor mechanical properties and/or difficult workability that are characteristic of other fluoroplastics.

Besides its good weldability, PVDF also lends itself to machining.

Compared to the polyolefins PP and PE, PVDF offers the following advantages:

- significantly improved general corrosion resistance

- significantly higher stress cracking resistance

- significantly higher thermal stability

- good UV stability

A major advantage of PVDF pumps is that they can be operated for long periods, even when pumping difficult fluids, before material damage occurs.

These properties combined with close to 50 years’ experience with engineering plastics at Munsch translate into excellent resistance to aggressive and, in particular, corrosive media of our PVDF pumps and hence, into a broad application range.

PVDF pumps are typically used for pumping:

-          hydrofluoric acid at all concentration up to the boiling point

-          hot concentrated hydrochloric acid

-          spent hydrochloric acid in evaporation systems

-          medium-strength hot sulphuric acid

-          nitric and hydrofluoric acid pickling liquors

-          solutions of strong oxidants such as hypochlorites, chlorate and peroxides

-          acidic chloride-containing solutions at high temperatures

-          aggressive solutions contaminated with organic impurities

-          liquid bromine and hydrogen bromide

Vertical submerged pumps are also available in this material. The submerged pumps are available for both wet end and dry end arrangement.

Pumps fabricated from PVDF are excellently suited for pumping tasks in the chemical industry, in electro-plating plants, the metallurgical industry, steel and stainless steel pickling lines, evaporation and regeneration systems, flue gas and exhaust air cleaning systems and in waste water treatment.

The pumps are also suited for use in explosive atmospheres (ATEX) and meet the requirements of EU Directive 94/9/EC.
